The JDRF Walk to
Cure Diabetes is among the most successful
fundraising events in the world, involving more than
700,000 people at 200 locations in some 13
countries. In 2006 over $90 million was raised
through Walk to Cure Diabetes and
JDRF funded 500
centers, grants and fellowships in 19 countries.
JDRF,
the world’s leading non-profit,
nongovernmental
funder of diabetes
research, was founded in 1970 by the parents of
children with juvenile diabetes – a disease which
strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin
dependent for life, and carries the constant threat
of devastating complications. Since inception,
JDRF has provided
more than $900 million to diabetes research
worldwide. JDRF’s
mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and
its complications through the support of research.
